Ball Machines For Tennis above $2500 are for coaches and clubs and people who take their tennis seriously. Playmate have a superb range of upgradeable professional tennis ball machines ideal for teaching or being taught, as they're built to last and have an array of stored tennis drills, both custom and pre-programmed, instantly available at the touch of a button.
As with Lobster, each machine looks alike. It's the control panel that betrays just how much 'weaponry' each machine has in it's 'arsenal'. The Playmate Smash starts the 'Chameleon' Range at nearly $4400, but can be upgraded through the 'Deuce' and 'Genie' to the 'PC' with it's incredible degree of programmability and intricate wireless remote, as finances permit.
Playmate even has a machine to elevate their 'Chameleon' Series machines called the 'Serve Lift', to recreate the most difficult shot for a tennis ball machine - the serve. As the return of serve is probably the most important stroke in tennis, this machine could be a good investment if you're a club owner or an advanced player wanting to 'leave no stone unturned' in the advancement of his or her game.
If you purchase Playmate's top ball machine, the Grand Slam with the Serve Lift, you'll be able to face serves that Andy Roddick or Serena Williams would be proud of, in both pace, placement and heavy spin, but you'll need nearly $12000 in your bank account to do so.
Lobster's top model, the Elite Grandslam V just about breaks into this price catergory - + or - $2500, but though only a 44lb battery machine, can more than compete with many of the AC powered 'Big Boys'!
With it's all court coverage allowing 'real' tennis play, it's pre-programmed drills based on player types, it's fully customizable sequences with up to 18 court position choices, it's state-of-the-art LCD control panel, and 20 function wireless remote, this is one hell of a ball machine at any price!
For less than $4000 SAM have two sturdy machines, built to withstand constant use and be invaluable to a tennis teacher - the 'Sport' and the 'Coach'. They're both programmable and have a choice of shots to 7 positions on the court.
They've not got the range of programmability of the top of the line Playmates and only a simple feed on or off remote, but they deliver balls at least 30 inches above the court surface - nearly twice as high as most ball machines. This gives the ejected balls a trajectory that is much closer to that delivered by a real player.
They're backed with a three year warranty, as befits the size of the purchase.
Used by ATP professionals at their training facility in Florida, the Shotmaker has more than enough in it's ambit to tackle the shortcomings in anyone's tennis game.
There are two models, the basic and the Deluxe, both offering the durability, reliability and range of shots and programming required in a professional tennis machine, yet priced at the low end of the high-powered machine range - $3100 - $4500.
The Deluxe model in particular has the capacity to store and instantly recall up to nine shot programmes of 6 different shots (speed, spin, elevation etc), to 7 lines on the court, giving the operator the ability to test a series of players in turn. It also has the option of a classy wireless remote laid out exactly as the main control panel.
The Lobster Elite Grandslam is in a league of it's own when assessing value for money in this price category, and is the only machine you could easy get into a vehicle and to a remote court. It would make a great choice for an individual with a home court or on the move.
The Playmate and SAM models have been designed to withstand the extra demands of commercial operation, reflected in their weight, construction and 3 year warranty. They would make ideal teaching or club machines where strength, durability and easily accessed tennis drills are prerequisites.
The Tennis Tutor Shotmaker has only a 2 year warranty, but being chosen by the professionals at the training facility at Ponte Vedra Beach shows how well this machine is respected for value, quality and scope.
The Playmate Chameleon machines have a greater array of functions, befitting their price, and their interchangeability would allow a tennis club to select a simple control panel for rentals, and a more versatile panel for coaching tennis pupils.
The Playmate Slam is one of very few tennis ball machines to deliver a 'proper' serve from it's elevated position, and the price tells you why it's not commonly available on many ball machines.
