The distinctive Tennis Tower Ball Machine is different to most other ball machines in it's price range in that there is no battery powered option. It's intended for home court owners, schools and clubs, where an AC electricity source is usually no problem.
The overriding requirement for fully portable ball machines to be as light and compact as possible isn't such a concern for the Tower, which means it's sturdier, taller and of course heavier at 60lbs. Infact, it's so black and robust, I can almost imagine it being mistaken for a wood burning stove!
Though heavy, the Tower Ball Machine is still easily maneuverable over even surfaces, and has small wheels in each corner to allow rolling on and off court.
As with the battery powered Tennis Tutor mid-range models, there's a variety of options to match your budget and useage requirements: The basic Tower, the 'Competitor Classic', is roughly equivalent to the first Tennis Tutor battery model in performance, with a large range of ball firing speeds to challenge a wide variation in tennis ability.
There are also dials to control ball feed rate, ball elevation and a switch to set the Tower firing balls randomly in a horizontal sweep across the tennis court - features standard on all models.
Perhaps the main difference to the portable Tennis Tutor models is the ball hopper capacity - at 225 tennis balls, the Tower holds 75 more balls than it's battery powered cousins, allowing you extended workouts.
The 'Competitor' offers you the chance to 'pit your wits' against a shot
you'll come across every day at the tennis club - top or backspin, and the 'Club' model offers the further refinement of a two function remote control. You can start or pause the ball feed to give yourself the chance to catch your breath, or if energy levels are high, you can remotely start up the side-to-side oscillation of the ball feed to get your pulse racing!
The top Tower Ball Machine Model has some powerful 'tools' to quickly elevate your tennis game. The 'Player Mode' feature is simple to operate - just choose one of three buttons to engage the Tower's pre-programmed store of shot sequences for beginner, intermediate or advanced levels of play.
The Tower will automatically adjust levels of ball speed, spin, elevation and side to side delivery to mimic the likely shot selection of an opponent with each skill level. You can further customize these shot sequences by adding your own adjustments to speed, spin and elevation to approximate the tennis play of the person you most want to beat at the tennis club!
Another advanced feature of the Tennis Tower Professional Player model is the 2 line delivery button to refine the horizontal oscillation to two distinct points on the court. On the 'narrow' setting, tennis balls will be delivered to two lines near the center of the tennis court. On the 'wide' setting, you'll be able to practice your forehand and backhand on the run successively, and get a serious workout into the bargain!
A particularly pleasing feature of the Tennis Tutor Tower is the ergonomically designed control panel, that makes learning and operating the Tower a doddle. The wireless remote available with the top model mirrors this superb design, allowing you to control every function from a distance, in the same way as if you were standing by the machine.
The Tennis Tower ranges in price from $1275 - $2395, befitting the large range of options available with this versatile tennis machine, but even the top-of-the-line Professional Player model would make an economic investment for a tennis club, given the average price level of these more static mains powered ball machines.
