Sports Tutor, the manufacturers of the Tennis Tutor Prolite Ball Machine have given us a clue as to their view of this versatile ball machine's main strengths in it's name - 'Prolite'.
The 'lite' refers to the weight, which at 22lbs for the AC model and 29lbs for the battery version is about as light as serious tennis machines get. Most people (without back trouble) should be able to lift this machine in and out of a vehicle and then short distances to the court without any trouble.
The 'Pro' refers to the professional nature of the ball machine, in that it's got a range of features and power to give all but the tennis elite a testing workout, covering the breadth of shot you're likely to face in a match (save for the serve).
If your the type of person who would prefer to get out and practice your tennis strokes with the minimum of fuss and manual reading, the Prolite is perfect. It'll arrive promptly, fully charged and ready to go, and is so user friendly, you'll be able to figure out the controls by simple intuition.
At the end of the day, you'll be able to easily connect the battery to charge overnight so you're Prolite Ball machine is primed and ready for 'battle' again in the morning. As with all Tennis Tutor models, the 'smart' battery charger is included in the price, and will optimally charge the battery to prolong it's life (up to 1000 re-charges) and prevent overcharge.
The Tennis Tutor Prolite Ball Machine has quite a few refinements for it's very reasonable price that'll help most tennis players make significant improvements to their game. From a 10mph ball delivered at a friendly 10 second interval, to a 60 mph ball delivered every 1.5 seconds, there's plenty of scope for increasing or decreasing the challenge according to energy levels and ability.
You'll be able to load the 125 ball capacity hopper multiple times on one charge of the battery which gives you 2 - 3 hours of court time, or of course any number of times if using the AC powered model.
There's a manually adjusted elevation angle control to allow you to practice ground strokes for a while and then get your Prolite to feed you lobs to hone your overhead game.
For $100 extra, you can order the model with a horizontal oscillation feature that will fire tennis balls randomly across the court to get your pulse racing, and your forehand and backhand operating in quick succession - a much more realistic tennis workout, and certainly worth the extra expense.
The Tutor Prolite excels in a number of areas - price and portability are two of the biggest plusses. Professional tennis ball machines with similar features usually cost and weigh more than the Prolite.
A number of the Prolite's properties are consistant with ball machines in a higher price bracket, such as the 10 second delay after starting the ball feed to allow you time to assume position, the integral 'smart charger' to protect the battery, and the optional horizontal oscillation mechanism to feed tennis balls in a sweep across the court.
If you're an intermediate level player already, and want to test your skills to the limit, the Prolite may not have quite enough firepower and variety. The Tennis Tutor Plus and Plus Player have longer lasting batteries, higher ball speeds and spin control for the more advanced player. The Prolite is quite capable of taking a relative beginner to a competant level though, and with oscillation will give a good tennis workout to anyone.
